Makkah and Mashaer Comprehensive Urban Public Transport Plan

As part of the bw-engineers group, we were tasked with the development of public transport concept for the Mashaer. During the Hajj season, the Mashaer is transformed in the span of five days from an empty expanse of land to a bustling city and back again. The enormous demand for transportation within a limited time span and constrained space creates a unique challenge, unequal to any other around the world. The proposed solution caters to the expected 4.2 million pilgrims by 2028 attending the annual Hajj in Makkah. We proposed an integrated public transport solution that incorporates rail and road based systems that are scalable, flexible and responsive to existing or future requirements and demands.
